Heart Attack
What are the warning signs?
The person may be experiencing; central chest pain, breathlessness, possible pain down the left arm or jaw, a rapid or irregular pulse, or nausea and vomiting. If any of these signs are prominent then the helper may presume it is a heart attack or something very similar. How to save the victim? There may only be a few minutes to save the person before it's too late. If the person has gone unconscious, which is likely, and they are still breathing then they should be put into the recovery position and emergency services should be called. If the person is not breathing they are likely to have gone into cardiac arrest and CPR should be given to the victim. Emergency services should also be called immediately in this situation. If the person is still conscious they should be sat down, emergency services should be called, and constant reassurance should be given to the person. |
